Sanitation & Hygiene

It is not enough to provide clean drinking water to improve the health situation. GSA pairs sanitation facilities (i.e., latrines) and hygiene education (hand-washing training….etc.) with the provision of clean water. 88% of diseases are water-related.

Community members, including members of Water Committees, received extensive training in basic sanitation and hygiene practices in order to improve living conditions and prevent unintentional contamination of their clean water. The team continues to promote health in neighboring communities by distributing sanitation promotional materials to households lacking this knowledge. The majority of health benefits of clean water (i.e. reduction in diarrheal rates) are only realized with accompanied with good sanitation and hygiene education
